Boarding

What's on in Boarding?

Boarding continues to be an exciting and very busy place at Kinross Wolaroi School. Over the past few weeks we have celebrated a number of significant events and individuals.

National Boarding Week

National Boarding Week was a week of celebrations for our boarding community. The entire boarding community contributed over the week; from photos on the oval, to gratitude day for our support staff and a boarder’s assembly; it was a special week to be apart of.

It truly highlights the uniqueness of the Kinross Wolaroi boarding community and is a fantastic week for the students to reflect on their love of boarding and display gratitude towards all those that contribute to their schooling experience. A highlight of the week was academic staff being invited to dinner at the boarding sites. Students enjoy showing their teachers and their families the boarding houses and how they live away from home.

Students also gathered on Friday of Boarding Week to also participate in a night of line dancing which saw plenty of students laugh and learn some new dancing skills.

We are so fortunate to have a broad and varied activities program that affords the boarders such versatile experiences while being away from home.

Inclusion in boarding

The theme for this term in boarding is Inclusion. This has afforded the students an opportunity to share their personal stories and differences and celebrate the diverse boarding community we have at Kinross Wolaroi.

The PLC site hosted a fantastic Shabbat dinner on Friday 26 May which was led by Year 11 Boarder Jessy Cohen. She shared traditions and customs of the Jewish culture. It was lovely to see the community come together to share in grape juice, Jewish bread and a formal meal in the Dining Hall.

National Reconciliation Week

27 May - 3 June

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023, Be a Voice for Generations, encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.

The students in boarding will look to explore this theme and further understand the power of their voice and actions. It is such a valuable part of the students’ educational experience and is a way that the boarding community can further develop our students’ knowledge and understanding of a very important part of Australia’s history.
