Catholic Schools’ Week Mass

Last Thursday along with our school leaders; Joel Morris, Ayla O’Rance & Cody Searle, I travelled to Armidale to attend the Diocesan Mass for Catholic Schools Week. It was a special occasion for all involved. Thank you to Rhonda O’Rance (Ayla’s nan) for driving the students.

Our Writing Journey Continued: How Kinder students learn to write!

Oral language is a very strong focus in Kindergarten so the students need to be able to verbalise their thoughts before they can write them.  IF YOU CAN’ T SAY IT YOU CAN”T WRITE IT.

Initially, in writing Kinder students use their STARS words to write a simple sentence. Moving forward the students read a rich literature text and discuss the book. They talk about the vocabulary in the book, the sequence of the story and how to describe the characters. From this text they write about their favourite part. This is then extended by students completing a sentence starter eg If I was Superworm I would…; I would drive Farmer John’s tractor to… When students complete these sentence starters they apply their knowledge of STARS words and how to sound out words.

I hope you enjoy some of our clever Kinder students' sentences.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This year's theme: Be a Voice for Generations. The theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives- where we live, work and socialise.

Have a happy and safe week
