Learning and Teaching
Prep
During the second term, the preps have been incredibly busy engaging in various subjects such as reading, writing, maths, STEM, structured play and perceptual motor program.
In the area of reading, they have made significant progress by learning phonics and blending them to read short words, including making rhyming words like pat, mat, and cat. They have also embarked on reading books, using comprehension skills such as predicting, connecting, and sequencing the story.
In terms of writing, the preps have been actively involved in various writing activities. They have been labeling pictures using the sounds they have learned and writing sentences based on their pictures. They have also written about their weekends and different activities that they can do.
During math lessons, the preps have been actively engaged in the exploration of numbers from one to ten. They have been learning about concepts related to length and positional language through the use of stories as well as engaging in practical, hands-on activities.
The STEM focus for this term is Green Thumb. The preps have delved into the realm of living things, learning about their needs and characteristics, such as with minibeasts and plants. They have conducted experiments with watercress, growing it under different conditions, such as without light, water, and soil, while also nurturing some watercress in ideal conditions.
Structured play has also been introduced to the preps, centered around the STEM theme. They have had the opportunity to explore topics such as minibeasts, animals, and sea creatures. Through this playful approach, the preps have been expanding their vocabulary, while also developing crucial social skills and enjoying their time together.
Every Friday, the preps are dedicated to enhancing their hand-eye and foot coordination, fitness, balance and eye-tracking skills. This activity not only promotes physical development but also serves as a wonderful opportunity for the entire prep team to come together and enjoy themselves. It is an enjoyable and engaging experience for everyone involved.
