BEBRAS Computational Thinking Challenge

This week, selected students participated in the BEBRAS Computational Thinking Challenge! Our young learners showcased their problem-solving skills and enthusiasm for computer science during this exciting event.

The BEBRAS Computational Thinking Challenge is an international competition that aims to promote computational thinking skills among students. It encourages logical reasoning, algorithmic thinking, and problem-solving abilities, all of which are vital in today's digital world.

Our students eagerly participated in the challenge, solving a series of engaging and thought-provoking computational problems. They demonstrated their ability to analyze problems, break them down into smaller components, and devise creative solutions. It was truly inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and determination throughout the competition.

We would like to express our gratitude to Ms Ross who supported and guided our students throughout their preparation for the BEBRAS Computational Thinking Challenge.

We encourage parents and guardians to continue fostering their child's interest in computational thinking and computer science. There are various resources available online that can further enhance their skills in this area. Engaging in activities that promote computational thinking will help our students develop a valuable skill set that is increasingly sought after in today's technology-driven world.

Students contribute to the Baw Baw Shire Municipal Early Years Plan (MEYP)

This week, our Environmental Captains and selected students met with representatives from Baw Baw Council to shared their ideas and suggestions on how to make our community an even better place to live.

The Baw Baw Shire Council is currently reviewing the Municipal Early Years Plan (MEYP) for the years 2023-2027. This plan outlines the strategies and actions that the council will undertake to support children aged 0-12 and their families. Recognising the importance of our students' experiences and perspectives, the council wanted to involve them in this planning process.

During the discussion, our students and Environmental Captains had the chance to express their thoughts on various topics. They explored questions such as what they appreciate about where we live, how to enhance our town, and even their one wish for positive change. Additionally, they discussed ideas from other areas that they believed could benefit Baw Baw Shire. It was an invaluable opportunity for our students to have their voices heard and make a tangible impact.

Music Update

Soul Sonics workshop

On the 4th May, 20 lucky, music focussed students took part in the Soul Sonics Workshop incursion at the school.

Under the guidance of 2 experienced electronic musicians/teachers the students recorded sounds fom the school surroundings and used these to make music.

They used the latest production processes and tools that are widely used in modern music and creative industries such as film, TV and gaming.

The students enjoyed working in teams to use Ableton to create loops of their sounds and then develop that into music using the most up to date industry equipment and techniques.
