From the Principal

Open Night

It was fantastic for our school to celebrate our State's Education Week on Monday night. It was another great event to engage and showcase to our school community the great things we do at Langy Park Primary School. I would like to thank all families who entered my Family Maths Challenge. I will make this a regular feature in our school newsletter. The more time you can spend with your child supporting their engagement with Maths, the better!

I would like to congratulate the following students who correctly worked out that the smile was worth $15.

Grade 6 Camp

This week our Grade 6's headed to, 'The Summit' for their school camp.

School camps provide an excellent opportunity for all students to get outside their comfort zone and involve themselves in activities that challenge them. I'm sure they will be returning to school with plenty of happy memories and dirty clothes!

I would like to thank the Grade 6 team, support staff and parents who organised and attended this camp.

2024 Foundation Enrolments

As I mentioned in our previous school newsletter report, 2024 school enrolment forms are now available in our school office. If your child is starting school next year, please see one of our lovely office staff, who will be able to assist you with this process.

School Reports

Currently, our classroom teachers our finalising your child's Semester 1 school report. Throughout Term 1 and 2, all classroom teachers are collecting a range of different data sets in key learning areas, so they are able to make an informed judgement against the standards in the Victorian Curriculum. All teachers spend a huge amount of time writing your child's report and they serve as a very important way of informing all parents and carers with the progress of their child.

Your child's report will be published to the Sentral Parent portal at the end of Week 8 this term.

We will then be running parent-teacher interviews in the final week of Term 2.

Illness

We are now moving into the year where the incidence of student and staff illnesses increases. If your child is unwell for any reason, we strongly encourage and recommend for them to stay at home until the symptoms subside.

If your child contracts COVID, the recommendation from the Department of Education is that they isolate at home for 5 days and return to school once the symptoms have subsided.

We thankyou in advance for your support with this.

Staffing

Following on from the illness item, when teachers need to take personal leave due to illness, we make every attempt to have them replaced.  Currently there are chronic shortages (not just our school, but nationwide) with us to be able to access a supply of teacher replacements. If we cannot find a replacement teacher the approach we take is:

  1. Splitting the grade across the year level
  2. Placing a specialist teacher (PE, Art, Music etc..) into the classroom

Our absolute priority is to create the least amount of the disruption to student learning.

Lunchbox Reminders

In the last couple of weeks it has been noticeable that there have been more wrappers appearing in the yard. I encourage all parents and carers to consider what packaging goes into your child's lunchbox each day.

Our grounds are looking absolutely brilliant at the moment and it is a shame when our school environment has rubbish in it.

I thankyou for your assistance with this.

I wish everyone in the Langy Park community a very safe and happy week ahead.
