Year 7 Team
Year 7 and 8 Update
It seems like only yesterday that our Year 7 students started with us and our new Year 8 students were all off to their first experiences of a new school year. We are now in the middle of our last term in 2021 and with a few weeks left, the demands and experiences we have going on do not slow down.
In the next 2 weeks, our students will commence our common assessment weeks and with so many interruptions this could be a bit of a shock to some of our students. I ask that during this time you support your young learner and contact the school if you feel they need any extra support. As a school, we only ask students to do their best. We understand that this term has been interrupted and impacted by Covid-19 and will make adjustments where necessary.
After our common assessment weeks, we move into skills/feedback week, Headstart and awards before we break for Christmas. With such a busy schedule until the end of the year, I will take this opportunity to say thankyou to our learning community for your support throughout this challenging time. The way this learning community’s resilience has shown though all the uncertainty in these challenging times is a credit to everyone; teachers, students and parents.
KURNAI POSITIVE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
7 and 8 Students continue to lead the way across our campus with their record setting achievements for positive green write-ups on Compass. I would like to recognise the number of positives both year levels have achieved across this year and ask that you continue to congratulate your learner every night when they receive a positive KPA from their teachers.

Primary school to secondary school transition
With the understanding we have a lot of siblings coming into our Kurnai learning community next year, I thought I would highlight that transitions are varied, complex and different for every child. Children and young people undertake a number of important transitions at key points during their education: moving from preschool to primary school, primary school to secondary school, between mainstream and specialist school settings and finally from school to pursue post-education options.
Here at Kurnai the transition is a process, not a one-off event. We have been working all year through the process of building relationships and understanding with the aim of supporting each student in their transition. Our team is identifying barriers to a student’s learning and any adjustments that can be made.
I look forward to helping all of our new Year 7s start their high school journey.
