Staff at Graduation Ceremony

Class of 2021 Graduation

Congratulations to our Class of 2021. It was a lovely evening last Friday night with our staff and students in attendance for the Graduation ceremony. Kate Thwaites, Federal Member for Jagajaga, presented the first certificate for the night.  The inaugural Jagajaga Resilience Award was given to Emily Jose, a most worthy recipient. In this newsletter, you can read why Emily was selected for this award.

The College Captains’ hosted the evening with confidence and assurance and the students were thrilled to be back at school one last time. Please take the time to read Emily and Lexie’s speech, which is published in this newsletter.

Congratulations to all of the award recipients. You will find them listed in this newsletter.

The event was livestreamed to families. Here is an excerpt of my speech:

“I would like to acknowledge the tremendous resilience and courage shown by our graduating students this year.  I am proud of the way you have connected to your teachers, classes and friends while learning from home. I am very proud of the way our staff was able to quickly return to remote and flexible learning on such short notice each time and were prepared to support and extend you when you returned to site.

Our College Captains led so admirably and with courage during this year of the pandemic.  They provided words of advice and encouragement to their peers through the College newsletter and Facebook and they offered opportunities for students to connect with them for further assistance and support. Thank you to our Captains, Emily Beasley and Lexie Lieschke, our Vice-Captains, Oner Georges and Courtney Green and our VCAL Captains, Abi Biju and Emily Jose for your commitment to student leadership this year.

Tonight, is your final Rite of Passage through secondary school.  You will receive your graduation certificates and special momentos to mark the occasion. You will have this last time, at school, to gather with your friends to share and create new memories.

I would like to thank parents and families for choosing Greensborough College for your child’s educational journey.

I wish all the students the very best in their future endeavours and I want you to know you are always welcome at Greensborough College.

“You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think”.

VCE students will receive their results on Thursday 16th December.  They have all received appointment times to meet with the Pathways team for Thursday 16th December or Friday 17th December.

Thank you to all the Year 12 VCE and VCAL teachers and Classroom Support Staff who have worked tirelessly with this cohort to get them over the line.
