Year 12 Graduation for the Class of 2016

This week, our graduating Year 12 students had an extremely successful Graduation Evening. I am very proud of the way the Staughton Community works together. The Graduation Evening demonstrated this. There was a great spirit in the room, and everyone had a great night.  Many students took the opportunity to thank their teachers for the hard work that they have put in this year. I would also like to echo those thanks to our VCE teachers, and in particular to Chris Wilson who organised the whole evening magnificently.

It is not only about academic learning at Staughton. Some of the best memories of our graduating students will come from their experiences in smaller communities within our larger Staughton community. These are places where students can feel like they belong. There is something for everyone at Staughton. A small number of these communities include student involvement:

  • As leaders (school captains, house leaders, YEP leaders, cultural leaders)
  • In sport, from successful football and netball, to individual success in athletics and swimming
  • In school productions and music concerts, particularly The Wizard of OZ and Grease.
  • In the annual Art Showcase
  • In Debating and Public Speaking
  • Sports jumper day, bake sales, Cultural Diversity Week, university visits, Staughton Idol

As principal, I would like to say on behalf of the school that we are going to miss the Class of 2016. This is particularly true for me as some of these students were in the last classes I taught before taking on my current role. I enjoyed teaching students in the graduating Class of 2016. I wish them all the best for the next stage of their lives as they move on to further study, training and work. I look forward to catching up with them in a few years’ time to see where life has taken them.
