Speak for the Planet
Written by Alliyah Davision
On Thursday and Friday last week, Chloe Brazel, Ryan Devney, Olivia Mihill, Sam Bourke and I travelled to Armidale to compete in the Annual ‘Speaking 4 the Planet’ Competition. On Thursday the students were involved in a writing workshop conducted by newspaper journalists and editors. We were taught the importance of stating your opinion in a substantiated way. On the second day, we went to the Council Chambers to compete in the Public Speaking Competition which was open to Years 7-10. In the prepared speech category, Chloe was awarded first place whilst Ryan came third. I came first in the impromptu speech category, where we were given 30 minutes to prepare and deliver a speech on an unknown topic.
All students competed and represented the school with enthusiasm. Thank you to Miss Donnelly for helping students prepare for this event and to Mr McKenzie and Mr Clark for supporting and supervising the excursion.
Literacy in Assessment Work
At the moment our Secondary students are completing Assessment Tasks at home and in class. Please remind your child to apply the PEEL Writing and CUPS Editing Strategies when completing these tasks.
Below is an overview of these strategies.
Year Levelled Literacy Intervention
Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI) will finish this week. The program has been a success as teachers have seen a significant improvement in comprehension and reading strategies. Thank you to Mrs Corderoy, Mrs Downes, Miss Humphries and Miss Donnelley for assisting in the implementation of LLI.
