Secondary Spectacular – High School Musical

There is certainly much hype around the school this week as our Secondary 7-8 students perform ‘High School Musical’.  Yesterday afternoon students performed to the whole school.  Tonight the Secondary Spectacular will be performed to family and friends.  Congratulations to all Secondary 7-8 students and staff for their hard work they have put in over this semester to produce such a quality performance, filled with high energy and colourful costumes; well done!

Whole School Assembly

Next Friday, 30th June we have our end of term whole school assembly.  This will commence at 9.15am at the Bundoora Campus gym.  We invite family and friends to join in the assembly and celebration of our term 2 learning.  The assembly program will be placed on Compass mid next week.

Student Support Group (SSG) Meetings

On Wednesday 26th July, we will have our SSG meetings, from 3.15pm to 7pm.  Information on making a booking through Compass for an SSG will be sent home during the first few days of term 3.

Family and Friends Association (FFA)

At the FFA AGM earlier in the year, the office bearer positions were not filled.  The current committee then decided that it be best to re-evaluate what the parent/family body is all about and if they are going to continue, what would be their focus and how would they do this?

I have met with the FFA a number of times since the AGM to discuss possible ways forward.  The current group are now excited and feel positive that we have developed a plan for a new family and school partnership group that will focus on three way support, (school to families, families to school, and families to families).  The proposed move to the Concord Community Connections Group will work with the school to plan family involvement in school events, organise termly parent information sessions, and provide opportunities for families to network.

The new school/family group plan aligns with the DET Framework for Improving Student Outcomes, Community Engagement, to have parents and carers as partners with Concord School.

We warmly invite family members to attend the next meeting on Tuesday 25th July at 1.30pm, at the Bundoora Campus.  At this meeting we need to finalise the closure of the current FFA so that we can move forward to this positive, school engagement partnership.  We would really like to hear from family members of the school community, about your thoughts on the proposed new group direction. If you have any questions, please contact Kyle Lewin (FFA President) on 0421 071 383, or myself.

Farewell

Sadly, this will be my last edition to the Concord School newsletter, Community and Communications page.  I will be finishing up at Concord at the end of this term as I will be starting a new position next term, Assistant Principal at Heathmont East Primary.

I have had an amazing 14 year career and journey at Concord, teaching and being a part of the leadership team.  I have been fortunate to work in various roles in the school, in which I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and working with so many wonderful students, families and staff.  I certainly will take many fond memories with me and will always hold the Concord School community in high regard.  A sincere thank you to everyone who I have worked with over the years, it has been an absolute pleasure.
