Principal's Report

End of Term 2

I have been extremely pleased with our students and the progress they have made during Term 2.  While particular students will always require extra support, the behaviour of our students over the term has generally been excellent.  We are constantly attempting to engage our students and improve what we do in this area.

I would like to thank the staff for their hard work over this term and wish the students a safe and happy vacation break.  I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 17th July when we return to school to commence Term 3.

The students finish school next Friday.  Parents/carers are to note that on this day school will finish at 2.30pm.  Please make arrangements to pick your child up 30 minutes earlier than the normal time if you are collecting them from a bus stop and school.

Staffing News

As we reach the mid-point of the year we have some significant staffing news.

Christine Pillot, our Community and Communications Manager (Leading Teacher), has been appointed to the role of Assistant Principal at Heathmont East Primary School commencing at the beginning of term 3. This is very well deserved as Christine is a leader of exceptional quality who has performed a number of roles since commencing at Concord School as a graduate teacher in 2003.

Ken and Jeanette McDowell are retiring at the end of this term. Ken and Jeanette’s son Michael attended the school in his Primary years from 1992. Jeanette commenced working in the school as a classroom assistant in 1996 and since that time has worked in Food Technology and most areas of the school. Ken commenced working in school maintenance in 2010. Both Ken and Jeanette, as well as being wonderful people, have been extremely hard working and dedicated to providing the best of education and care to the students within the school. We wish them well in their retirement.

Colin Daisley (currently Maintenance at the Watsonia Campus) will replace Ken McDowell working full-time across both campuses from the commencement of term 3.

Thom Irwin, from the Secondary 9-10 team, is returning to Canada for family reasons for the second half of this year. Thom is being replaced by Kaleigh Hughey, a fellow Canadian, who has worked in our school previously.

Secondary Spectacular

The Secondary Spectacular is on this week with our Secondary 7/8 students performing ‘High School Musical’.  For the very first time there is a performance on Friday evening commencing at 7pm. The students have spent many months rehearsing and preparing their costumes. This is a show that always show cases the extraordinary skills of all our students and is not to be missed!

Sign In at Office When Arriving Late or Leaving Early

When students arrive at school after 9.00am or leave earlier than 3.00pm they are required to sign in or out at the office by filling out the ’Late Arrival’ or ‘Early Leavers’ book.  This should occur whether the students are with a parent/carer or not.  This helps us keep track of the students especially with their travel arrangements. It is requested that parents/carers reinforce the importance of this with their children.

Past Students

I had a visit recently from a past student, Georgia Hoad, who was our School Captain in 2014. I asked her to provide some information on what she is currently doing.

Since leaving Concord in 2014 I am now living it up in the ‘’real world workforce’’ at the bottom end of Collins Street working for a business consulting company called Nous Group. My job is as an office assistant helping out two of my work colleagues on reception. Some of my daily duties include unpacking and re stacking the dish washers, making sure the kitchens are clean and wiping down benches, setting up board room meetings with water and clearing away anything that maybe still in the room. I pack suitcases full of stationary and get any documents/printing together that workshop requires. I also have my own email and refer to a lot of my work off that.

I hope this helps students and families know the best possible outcomes there is after leaving school.

Thanks Georgia.

Principal's Award

The principal's award goes to Marcus.

Congratulations Marcus Lee! Marcus has had a fantastic Semester in PCS. Marcus has worked very hard to make good choices at school this year. This has been evident in Marcus’ continual improvement across all areas of the curriculum.

Marcus comes to school with a smile every day and tries his best at everything he does. This Semester, Marcus has particularly enjoyed the Integrated Unit topic “Our Community” and swimming lessons with Scott. He should be very proud of himself, as he has come a long way. Keep it up Marcus!

Congratulations Marcus!
