Principal's Report

An exciting Term 3 ahead

Welcome back to school for Term 3. I hope that all the families in our Kalinda community were able to spend some quality family time together during the school holidays.

We have a very exciting term ahead with some of the major events including:

  • School Athletics Carnival
  • Visit from Lilyvale Primary School (Japanese sister school)
  • Book Week
  • State School Spectacular

There are also many other exciting things going on at individual year levels and on a daily basis within each class. I am sure that it will be a great term for learning and I wish every student good luck as they strive to meet their learning goals.

Well-being at Kalinda

At Kalinda, student well-being is given the same level of priority as academic success. In fact the two areas are intrinsically intertwined. Building the capacity of each student to manage their personal well being and thrive in life enhances academic performance. Teaching students in a highly effective way, with learning that is highly individualised at appropriately challenging levels also improves student well being as well as academic results.

I was fortunate over the break to be able to attend a 4 day conference on Positive Education at Geelong Grammar. The conference was highly inspiring and it further reinforced within me the need to embed strong well-being practices through all areas of our school and curriculum.

In week 3 of this term, I will be spending the day with our two HOPE Leaders (Head of Positive Education) Bron Steele and Mel Tattersall to develop an 18-24 month plan for well-being at Kalinda. I will share these plans with you in upcoming newsletters.

We have also employed a Counsellor from the beginning of this term. Emily Bieber is our new counsellor and is a great addition to our team. We will send further communication soon about how the counsellor will work with students and what our referal/consent system will be.

Welcome to Akina sensei

I would like to give a big welcome to Akina, our new Japanese intern. She will be spending second semester here at Kalinda and will be a great asset to our Japanese program.

A big thank you also to the families that are hosting Akina.

Parent Opinion Survey

Over the next few weeks, a link to the Parent Opinion Survey will be sent out to 170 randomly generated families from the school. If you are selected, we really appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey as it gives us great feedback on the parent perspective of how we are going as a school.

We are kind. We are resilient. We are respectful.
