Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden News Kitchen Garden News, Coming to the end of the school year our Spring harvest has been bountiful.  A lot of broad beans, cabbage, silver beet, spinach, salad greens, mint, parsley, chives, dill, eggs, the list goes on…  Students have continued to improve their kitchen skills and double podding of broad beans has proved to be particularly popular., A sample menu from this term:, Potato, Pea and Spinach Tortilla, Corn Fritters, Tomato Herb Salad, Scones with Quince Jam, Our community volunteer group has also grown.  We are so lucky to have people willing to give their time to our kitchen garden program.  Their commitment makes all the difference to the SAKGP and the classes are really benefitting from those extra hands.  Of course we always welcome our mums, dads, grandparents and carers to any of our classes!, Keep an eye out for our new school sign with the iconic red watering can publicising the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.  We wanted to draw attention to the amazing kitchen garden that lies behind our fence.  Check out the photo with some of our volunteers holding the sign., A big “congratulations” to Trish, who has been successful in securing not one, but two grants to grow our program.  One will go towards establishing a bush tucker garden and the other will contribute to building more raised beds (with help from Hobsons Bay Men’s Shed) and revitalising the area outside the kitchen.  This will make it easier for the students to directly harvest the produce during a kitchen class further strengthening the connection between garden to plate.  Thanks Trish!, 4E were lucky enough to host special guests at their final kitchen class for the year.  When I excitedly announced that we had special guests coming to share our meal the whisper went around the class that perhaps Stephanie Alexander or Gordon Ramsey were dropping by!  Not quite (!) but the kids were delighted to host Lisa, David and Rochelle and point out the produce that we used from the garden to cook the meal.
