A Message from David...

Remote Learning

We would like to thank the whole school community for the smooth and relatively seamless transition to remote learning over the recent weeks. Our staff did a great job and were able to adjust their programs swiftly when the news was announced. I really enjoyed seeing the engagement of the students in the morning Webex meetings and the creativity of our staff to keep the students connected and excited.

Our aim was to provide a flexible learning program that maintained continuity for our students. This aim was met with the majority of our students engaged in the program and minimal disruptions to other school operations. The students all returned to on-site school on Friday and settled back into school well (and very enthusiastically!). Thank you all for your support during this time.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held during the first week back of Term 3. Further information about this will be published soon as we are unsure of the format we will be able to use under the current restrictions.

School Review

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, AGPS will be conducting a school review in Term 3 to set our new strategic plan for the next four years. We are really looking forward to working through the review process and setting the future direction of our school. Our school review dates are:

  • 15th July - Validation Day
  • 29th July - Fieldwork
  • 10th August - Panel Day

The new strategic plan will be completed later in the year and will be made available to our community when we are able.

Reports

Staff have been busy working on completing the student reports for Semester 1. They are currently being revised, edited and proofread and final assessment data is being collected now that we are all back on-site. Reports go live to parents and carers on the final day of Term 2.

In Semester 2 some classes across the school will be trialling a new continuous reporting process. The trial will be conducted through a working party, consisting of teachers across the school and led by Amy and Cam. We are really keen to begin this work and closing the gap between home and school and providing more real-time updates to student learning progress. Communication and feedback opportunities will go out to those parents and carers in the classes that are trialling this.

Year 4:  Addison (4/5A), Eloise (4/5F) & Kingston (4/5J)

Attendance

A big thank you to our parents for putting their child's absence on Compass - Well Done!

We have been instructed to follow up any student who is away each day, so by putting your child's absence on Compass saves me calling you.

If your child is going to be late, there is no need to put this absence on Compass as I will put it on when your child arrives at school.

There are also a high amount of students that are continually late which we are required to follow up - A student who is 1/2 hour late each day misses the equivalent of 16.6 days of learning each year.

If possible please make appointments after school hours.  If you do need to collect your child from school can you please do so at the following times to stop disruptions to the other members of your child's class or the whole school.

 - 11:00am

 - 11:30am

 - 1:30pm

 - 2:15pm

As we have mentioned before, attendance is a priority and we are being proactive on why students are missing school.

Thank you,

Jenny

It is hard to believe that there is only one week left until the halfway point of 2021! I hope you are all able to have a nice, safe and relaxing break in the upcoming holidays.

Take care,

David
