Hey everyone, we hope you have a great holiday and that you keep reading! Make sure to borrow a book (or two, or three,...) before the term ends. The MESC Lit Fest is next term (see info below) and the Library Team are going to be busy helping Mrs Swannell to organise this - watch out for posters and info about the authors and illustrators coming along. Congratulations also to Ruby H (Year 7) who has been doing a great job in the library and is now joint Library Team Leader for 2021.
Happy Reading

Please remember to return (or renew) your library books before the end of term - you can check your loans via the Library Website (just login via Compass-Favourites). Overdue notices will be sent out to some students as a reminder.

We have joined a new SLAV (School Library Association of Victoria) book review platform "Shelftalkers"which connects students who love books and reading, by "sharing written reviews with their peers...and encourage and engage young readers in reading and writing, beyond the classroom".
Here are our latest 'Shelftalkers' for you to read....
'The Death Cure'
James Dashner
*****/5
Set as the final book in the iconic Maze Runner Trilogy, Death Cure is about Thomas and his now smaller than ever crew fighting through the sun flare raved world, for the few that have not joined the large population that have succumbed to a man made virus called the Flare. This brings them to start questioning what they had once believed in and what price they are willing to pay for their freedom. I enjoyed this book, just as I have enjoyed all Dashner novels and hope for a sequel to what is for now a gripping finale.

'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes'
Suzanne Collins
*****/5
This book is set in a world after a massive war that almost wiped humans off the face of the earth, now they live divided. A poor boy, Coriolanus, lives in the capital and becomes a mentor in the 10th Hunger Games. Things become difficult when the person he's training to win becomes someone he doesn't want to lose. It was excitingly thrilling and I just couldn't put it down. Although it was a little hard to get started. I recommend this for ages 10+ This was also a great way to learn more about some of the characters.

'The Safest Lies'
Megan Miranda
****/5
The storyline of this book at first seemed really simple, but it soon unravelled into a twisting tale that had me hooked from the first chapter. The sense of mystery and excitement looming from the first drama had me hanging off the edge of my seat! Megan Miranda wrote with impressive deception, and each twist and turn came as a shock. Overall, I enjoyed the thrilling storyline and unexpected plot twists. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a book that you won't want to put down.

We launched our 2021 Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge last month with a morning tea in the Library. Mr Barut (Acting Principal) congratulated them on setting a 'personal reading goal' and an inspiring few words to set them on their way. Mrs Swannell is also joining in by reading one book for every student who signs up - so far 22 students = 22 books!!
It's not too late to join this challenge - just see Mrs Swannell to find out about registering.
If you love reading, drawing, watching, or just talking about Manga/Anime then join us in the library Wednesday lunchtimes.
