ACMI Excursion

ACMI was a great excursion as I enjoyed the experience and pleasure of being able to be there. It showed me a whole lot of different ways that pop culture was created such as movies, games and many more. I really enjoyed playing the retro games because I’ve never played these types of old games before. It was a fun and very interesting experience for me and would definitely go back again.

On Wednesday, 28th April, we travelled to the ACMI Museum in the city. At ACMI we were able to freely explore the different exhibitions and learn more about history of film making. What I liked the most about the Museum was looking at how film, gaming, music and art has evolved over the years and looking at the different aspects of film/game making and the amount of planning and editing is required to create them. It was interesting to see how the world around us and social media influences the films, music and art that is created. My favourite exhibition was the ‘Fashion on Film’. I was mesmerized by the beautiful old Victorian styled dresses with beautifully detailed bodices (it was beautiful). Also, looking at the insanely realistic prosthetic body parts used in films was really cool. I really enjoyed my experience at ACMI!  😊

On Wednesday my pop culture class went to the ACMI art museum in the city. I can admit I was a bit apprehensive at first as I thought it would be boring and considered not going. In the end my friends managed to convince me to go and I am really glad I did. I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences of my high school journey thus far.

I arrived at the station and met up with some friends a bit earlier than the set time and we waited around for our teacher. When she arrived, she thoroughly explained what we were going to and how we were going to go about the day. Throughout our day she constantly made sure we were all safe and together. The train ride there didn’t take too long and it was relatively enjoyable. Sometimes I would laugh so hard my friends had to remind me there were other people on the train. The scenery was nice to look at as well, so many colourful buildings and I couldn’t help but admire the nature surrounding us as it zoomed by.

When we arrived in the city I was overwhelmed. Everything was so big and so loud. Luckily for me I was just as big and loud so 5 minutes in I felt right in my element. I could feel myself get a little bit more bored every second and was desperate for it to be over. That was until I actually walked into the ACMI museum. I was completely taken aback. I wasn’t expecting something so extravagant. I thought it was going to be a museum filled with old paintings almost like an art gallery. But instead, I was met with video games, movie references, access to so much knowledge and pop culture. It was amazing. I could see that my friends were enjoying themselves too. We spent a good hour looking around the museum and interacting with the art. After that we were allowed to roam around the city.
