African Drumming

Year 9 Community Jobs

As part of our Community Jobs elective, students are given the opportunity to meet people in different areas of employment.  We were lucky enough to have Jose Mesquita who runs his own small business in teaching African Drumming, volunteer his time to speak to our students.

Jose spoke about his journey towards finally becoming a teacher of Music.  He overcame great hardship, civil war and displacement but never gave up and is now lucky enough to be working in Primary Schools teaching something he loves.

The students and their teacher Mr Valentino were then treated to an interactive session where they learnt how to play some African & Brazilian Samba rhythms.  They finished their session with a game of Rhythm Master with some student proving to be excellent at avoiding detection.
