Dickins Room

With Kinder remaining open over the lock down period, it has meant that we have been able to maintain our learning and social connections for the children. This has been a really important factor, affording the children the continuity that they didn't have last year.

Our Wimbi children have really enjoyed group construction such as the trains and Duplo. Working with increased co-operation and collaboration is one of the main goals for our Three year old class, this is something that we will be stepping up over the course of the next two terms.

The children have also been enjoying stories, art, the calm down tent and dramatic play.

We have celebrated two birthdays this week, this is always a special time in our classes, sharing these occasions allows the children to develop a wider perspective of their place in the world as well the ability to support and empathise with their peers.

Our Marram class has had a huge week! They have been incredibly busy working with multiple art mediums, demonstrating remarkable focus and concentration and really resonating with the ability to make meaning and express themselves. We used white crayons and water colour paints to explore how wax repels liquids, water colour pencils and clean water to observe how colours bleed and mix, harma beads- supporting incredible fine motor to place multiple small beads onto a board one at a time and so much drawing and writing of names.

We have integrated a lot of cause and effect resources also given that we have had a very wet week. The jumping frogs were a huge hit, allowing the children to work in pairs to launch a frog into a 'pond' of blue marbles by pushing down on it's back. This required a large amount of focus and care to get it to not launch too far or too short.

On Thursday, we managed to get a short amount of time in the school garden after the rain and wind had subsided. The children really enjoyed exploring and just 'being', I hope that the long weekend was some time to further this within your family.

Moore Room

Despite some crazy weather we had an awesome week.

Both groups enjoyed discovering some new fruit delights, through smell and taste, in our Chinese language classes. It is called Pomelo or Youzi in Mandarin - there was a little bit of mixed reaction from our samples!

We had been discussing different sounds in music and what instruments they might come from. We discovered that the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra plays the theme song from the very popular children’s show Bluey. It was awesome listening to the individual instruments as well as hearing it all come together. Extending on our bee topic we also listened to ‘The flight of the Bubble bee’.

Anna was able to bring in her mummy and baby bunnies for the children to enjoy a wonderful cuddle. The fur was incredibly “cuddly, soft and comfy” according to the children. Of course what is next is to make our own rabbit ears, act out some scenarios and have some great song and dance moments.

We are holding our parent teacher interviews next week on the 22nd and 23rd June. Please select a time from the link provided on seesaw for a discussion around your child’s learning and development at kinder. We will clarify soon around whether these will be via zoom or face to face.

Have a wonderful week!
