Selamat siang!

Welcome back to on-site learning! The 3/4 teachers are elated to be seeing everyone back in person this week. Thank you to our wonderful students and support teams at home for the communication and resilience you showed during this lockdown. Now let’s get back into it!

Last week, students were working through the planning and publishing stages of Informative Writing. Students conducted research, took notes, drafted and published an information report and even created glossaries and diagrams. We will continue to build on these skills this week, providing opportunities for students to challenge themselves in their vocabulary, punctuation and sentence structure. In Reading, we begin to look at summarising and paraphrasing - a skill that will come in handy as students develop their ability to write original sentences from research.

In Mathematics, students presented their understanding of the Vertical Addition Strategy in a Seesaw Portfolio Task. It was great to see the Addition Keywords being used as students explained their thinking. This week, we begin to analyse and conduct chance experiments. A great way to support chance vocabulary is through board games and card games at home. Discussing possible outcomes and their ‘likelihood’ could be a good activity for these rainy nights!

The information reports we constructed at home are going to be the basis of our Guided Inquiry portfolios over the coming weeks. Students will construct their own ‘triorama’ of the habitat of their chosen animal. While we may not be allowed to have an on-site showcase for these projects, we will be sure to share them on Seesaw so you can take a good look!

We are sensitive to how the changes in daily routine may impact the wellbeing of all students as we return to face-to-face teaching and learning. We will be providing lots of opportunities for students to collaborate and compromise in the classroom. Continuing to focus on our value of ‘inclusivity’, we will discuss ways to support others to feel a sense of belonging in the classroom and playground. It would be a good idea to practise some ‘daily gratitude’ at home, encouraging students to identify a few things that went well for them each day.

Once again, we would like to thank all of the extended support crews at home who assisted students in connecting and engaging with online learning over the past few weeks.

Pupil of the Week

3/4G - Alisia Y

For showing responsibility when responding to feedback to improve your Information Report. You showed persistence to create an engaging and detailed report on numbats. Amazing, Alisia!

3/4M - Ethan R

For demonstrating zest and a love of learning when carefully explaining how to use the vertical addition strategy to solve maths problems. You used maths key words to show your understanding and even challenged yourself to use decimal numbers. Excellent, Ethan! :)

3/4K - Sophie C

For demonstrating curiosity and independence when working through maths tasks. You challenged yourself to complete all tasks to the best of your ability and responded to all feedback. Spectacular Sophie!

3/4O -  Iris T

For demonstrating a love of learning as you thoughtfully reflected on your learning tasks and challenged yourself to find a next step. This was exemplified as you reflected on your addition and subtraction modelling and took on the challenge to challenge yourself to use vertical recording with multiplication. Incredible Iris!

3/4R - Briana S

Braina for demonstrating a love of learning when creating your video explaining vertical addition with renaming. It was great to see you use an example equation to work through your problem and explain each step of the way using mathematical keywords. Brilliant, Briana!

3/4D - Mackenzie D

Well done using your growth mindset when using feedback to create your information report during remote learning! Keep up the great work in challenging situations, magnificent Mackenzie!
