This week our youngest students celebrated another major milestone of their school career, their 100th day of Prep!
On Wednesday, students leapt forward in time and came back to us as their 100 year old selves. Many of them were unrecognisable and couldn’t quite remember where they had left their dentures… A huge effort was made by families to ensure that they looked the part!
We began the day with a procession of the elderly around the basketball court. Many of our senior citizens were grateful for remembering to pack their mobility aides to assist them on the long walk. As we continued our day, the old folk participated in many activities. We created self-portraits of our 100 year old selves, wrote what we’d like to achieve before we get too old and completed a numeracy challenge where we had to do 100 activities outside, like ten star jumps, ten bear walks, ten skips, all the way to 100.
The Prep teachers would like to express how proud we are of all of the students and the tremendous efforts they have put into making their first semester an excellent one! We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings.
This week our STEM challenge was:
Make a vehicle that will travel quickly down a slide.
Things to consider:
The Year 3 students are getting very good at working together to solve these challenges and using our different brains to solve, test, adapt and try out solutions.
Special guest and author Kerrie Taylor has joined us during Auslan and library classes this week. Kerrie has signed her stories to the students and shared her experiences living as a deaf person. It has been so pleasing to see students fully engaged and asking insightful questions to gain a further understanding about deaf culture. If you are tuning into the assembly on Friday, Kerrie will be on the screen as an Auslan interpreter.
On Wednesday, August 2, fifty-four students from Year 3-6 went to the Newport Athletics Track to represent the school and participate in the District Athletics Carnival.
The students in attendance had qualified for the event after performing really well at the recent school carnival which took place in week two of this term.
On a gloriously sunny winter’s day, our students granted Mr A the perfect birthday present to finish the carnival in equal first place, tied with Williamstown PS, to register our best ever finish at this annual event.
Congratulations to all the students who represented our school on the day. Many of the students have also qualified for the Division Athletics Carnival which will take place at the same venue on Wednesday, September 6. Information for this event will be sent home shortly via Compass.
Thanks to Alanna and Tracey D for their assistance on the day and to all the parents who came along to cheer on the team.
