Prep Update

During the next fortnight, Prep students are undertaking learning in the following areas:

Reading	Week 6 & 7: We will be exploring Fiction and Non-fiction texts, their features and their differences. We will continue to engage in daily Phonics lessons, focusing on the /sh/, /ch/ and the /tch/ digraph. We are continuing to link our learning to the sounds learnt earlier in the year.
Writing	Week 6 & 7: We are continuing to write information reports on a range of Native Australian animals. Creating sentences about their appearance, diet and habitat, as well as drawing a diagram and labelling the animal.
Maths	Week 6: We will be learning about sharing equally between groups and what fair share means. Week 7: We will be re-visiting subtraction, using the language of take-away, difference, less and fewer.
Inquiry	Week 6: Discovering Native Animals (Mammals), including their external features, offspring and habitats. Week 7: Discovering Native Animals (Reptiles), including their external features, offspring and habitats.
Social and Emotional	Week 6 & 7 : We will be continuing our unit on Respectful Relationships, including: Problem Solving, Resilience, Social and Emotional Learning, Gender stereotypes, Gender Equality and building positive relationships. They will be reading 'The Smart Cookie' and discussing how everyone learns at different paces/learns differently

Book week dress up! OnMonday 21st August, students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character and to bring along their favourite book to share.
Moonlit Sanctuary excursion on the 6th of September- Please provide consent and payment via Compass as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please ask your child's classroom teacher.
Reader satchels- In between the reader change, please continue reading our decodable book as this will help with fluency, comprehension and blending skills. Don't forget to go through ALL the sounds we have learnt so far in our phonics books also! This will help cement those sounds.
Heart words- Teachers will be checking heart words throughout the week and updating them as needed.
