Secondary School

Year 7

English

This term in students are reading the novel Parvana by Deborah Ellis. With a focus both on the power of imagery in creative writing, and the exploration of differing cultural experiences, our students created drawings of the protagonist's living conditions, comparing these with their own homes.

Year 8

Mathematics

Our students have been working on some higher level Maths on linear equations and these are some of their creations.

Here are some advanced level tasks completed on a software called DESMOS.  DESMOS is used to plot data points, explore transformations and solve equations. In real life DESMOS is used for data modelling and  data analysis and predictions.

Year 9

Forensic Science

Students making an impression of either their hand or their shoe sole, then making a cast of their impression.

Year 10

Science

Students carried out the first in a series of neutralisation reactions as we complete our Chemistry unit.

Year 10 Chemistry students carried out a titration in order to produce a neutral solution.

Year 11

English Extension Elective Information Forum

Each year, our Year 11 cohort are faced with the daunting task of selecting their final subjects for Year 12. Last week our current English Extension class were lucky to have 2021 student alumni Isabelle Williams provide them with insight into the pros and cons of selecting English Extension subjects. Isabelle Williams selected English Advanced, English Extension One and English Extension Two in her final year at school, and was able to answer student questions and help clarify the shape of differing HSC pathways.

PDHPE Update

The Year 11 PDHPE students are currently studying their Fitness Choices unit. This requires students to immerse themselves in different types of physical activity available to individuals and groups.

Last week saw both classes try ‘Boogie Bounce’. Instructors Maddy and Estelle from the Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre came to school to run the session with the students. Boogie Bounce is a high energy, dance inspired exercise program done on mini trampolines. Students had a great time elevating their heart rates whilst performing some complex jumping movements. We highly encourage people of all ages and fitness abilities to give this fitness class a go!

This week Miss Thompson’s class walked to Adore Pilates in Moama, where Britt led the students through a 60-minute session. The class was divided into two parts: the first 30 minutes were spent on the reformer, engaging in complex movements, and the remaining 30 minutes were dedicated to floor exercises focused on strength building. The students thoroughly enjoyed the session, challenging their flexibility and strength. After the session, the students felt rejuvenated, with many expressing their desire to participate in more regular sessions. Thanks to Britt for catering to our needs and running a great session.

Meanwhile Mr McMahon’s class rode to Impact Body & Mind Moama. Fitness instructor Shane walked the students through the proper techniques for exercises such as squats, kettlebell swings and deadlifts. After they had been shown the techniques of the different exercises it was time to put it all into practice. They completed two rounds of a gruelling HIIT circuit where at the end they were thankful it was over. Some more than others.... they know who they are. Unlike Miss Thompson's class who felt rejuvenated after their pilates session, our students were exhausted and loathing the bike ride back to school.  A huge thank you to Shane and the team at Impact Body and Mind for having us at their gym and also for the lovely gift which saw all our students walk away with an Impact hoodie.
