Fantastic 5/6F

Welcome to 5/6F!

So far Term 3 has been action packed with many events. In week 1, the Year 6s went to camp at Phillip Island Adventure Resort.  In week 3, everyone participated in the Media Incursion.  We went to Moorabbin in week 4 to attend Twisted Science, and last week we started our swimming lessons at Haileybury College. One of the biggest highlights has been preparing for our school production:  SJV Speaks For The Trees.

Science Experiments

We had an awesome time learning about light this term. Each class has been rotating to a different learning space where we are focusing on different areas of light through theory-based and practical activities. We are all loving the fun experiments that are helping us learn. So far, we have learned about different topics such as absorption, reflection, shadows and refraction.

Twisted Science

We went to Twisted Science and did some cool experiments with different chemicals. We loved doing the different activities. We learnt about chemicals and elements that make up the periodic table. It was interesting to see the reaction of mixing chemicals.  Some of the chemicals changed colour, temperature and smell based on the different chemical reactions. We had a great time.

School Production

This year, our school concert is about the Lorax. The concert has a message: we want to show people that our actions affect the environment, and that we need to do better for the planet. The year 5-6 students made posters to promote the concert and its message:

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." Dr Seuss.

R.E - Who is God?

We made posters to share ideas of who we understand God to be. We used Canva to create posters, using a variety of unique designs. This activity was really enjoyable and we learnt a lot about who God is.

Media Incursion

The Year 5/6s had their media incursion which was really engaging. The incursion was split into 2 days where we participated in many different activities. We learnt how to make cartoons through stop-motion animation, film a TV presentation and record a radio production, both requiring us to recite and remember our lines from a script. Everyone had many different and creative ideas for the animation and we had a lot of fun doing the radio and TV shows.

Swimming

The swimming program this year is really exciting because it is at Aquastar, Haileybury College in Keysborough. It is a new swimming program with amazing swimming instructors who have been teaching us how to do freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and dolphin kick. We have been divided into 7 groups which means smaller groups for learning, making it is easier for the instructors to teach. We are having lots of fun as we improve our swimming abilities.

Camp

The Year 6 students had a lot of fun at camp at Phillip Island. First, we went to the Nobbies Centre where we learnt about sea life in the Arctic and Antarctic circles and what it's like to live there. When we arrived at camp, we did many exciting things such as going kayaking and building rafts. We ate smores over the campfire and also got to relax in the swim-spa with our friends. We were able to walk to the beach with our groups because our pancakes were a disaster. Everyone had duties which included cleaning and setting up breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. We had an amazing time at camp.
