Dear Junior School Parents/Carers and Students

It’s certainly been a packed start to the term! Students have commenced new subjects and have begun to consolidate the learning habits they established in the first semester of 2023. Our Year 7 students continue to be supported by our Peer Support Leaders through the Tutorial Program, and our Class Captains have been collaborating regularly to represent the views of their peers on a range of matters. In addition to participating in The Respect Program, our Year 8 students have been exploring their options for electives in 2024 and have commenced the exciting task of selecting their Year 9 subjects. This week sees our Year 7 and 8 students participating in World of Maths workshops and the Australian Maths Competition (Wednesday) before the whole school heads to Ballam Park on Friday for the House Athletics Competition. 

When you’re an Addams… 

Congratulations to the large number of Junior School students who were a part of the cast or crew for the sensational 2023 school production, The Addams Family. On an emotional closing night, we farewelled a large number of Year 12 students who had forged such strong connections as a tightknit group through their involvement in shows throughout their time at Frankston High School. It was so heartening to see our Year 7 and 8 students commencing that journey and we have no doubt that their continued passion and dedication to the performing arts as part of future productions will leave them with similarly fond memories. Well done to the following Year 7 and 8 students who took on roles either on stage or behind the scenes.

A particular mention should be given to Maddie Bishop of Year 7 for her stellar performance in the lead role of Wednesday in her first production at Frankston High School!

Year 8 Respect Program

The first day of The Respect Program for our Year 8 students was held on Friday 14 July with highly-regarded organisations The Man Cave and Flourish Girl facilitating powerful workshops. The Man Cave facilitators were particularly thrilled to be back, having run their first ever workshop at Frankston High School in 2014. The sessions focused on empowering our young people and we were so impressed with the way our students leant into the activities and discussions that often required them to reflect deeply and be vulnerable with their peers. 

The second part of The Respect Program consists of a challenge program, to be held across two days at The Summit in Trafalgar East on Monday 31 July (8A, 8C, 8E, 8G, 8J, 8L and 8N) and Monday 7 August (8B, 8D, 8F, 8H, 8K and 8M). The students will tackle challenges in a 5km course with 39 obstacles to test physical stamina and mental endurance. This unique experience will provide students with the opportunity to build connections with their peers, teachers and support each other through challenges to develop a positive sense of themselves through their accomplishments. We are looking forward to seeing plenty of photos and hearing all about the day – it’s going to be great! 

Thank you to the Year 8 team – Ms Emily Sykes, Ms Jess Knights and Mr Joel McMahon – for their efforts in establishing this program for our students, and to all those who have supported the running of these days.
