Gold Fever Strikes Again!

What a fantastic day we all had on Wednesday, as we went back in time to the 1850s. Dressed in character, we set off to the Gold Memorial, where the first gold was found in Victoria by Louis J Michel. Whilst there, we were met by Michael Lynch (Emily's dad) who showed us how to pan for gold, and some students were lucky enough to have a turn and managed to find their own speck (the excitement was real!). From the Memorial, we walked up Fourth Hill to an old mine shaft and then down to the Victory Mine and Quarry before setting off along the main road back to school, just in time for recess.

After recess, there were rumours that gold had been found onsite at ACPS and in true 'goldrush' fashion, the students immediately dropped everything and ran from their classrooms in the hopes to strike it rich! They very quickly learnt that life on the goldfields wasn't fair and it was every man (or woman) for themselves!

Thank you so much to everyone who made the effort to get into the spirit of the day. Your costumes were absolutely terrific and just added to the excitement!

A special thank you to Michael for meeting us at the Gold Memorial and demonstrating the gold panning!
