Literacy

In Literacy this week, we have focused on the picture story book, Uno's Garden by Graeme Base. The children have made predictions about the book and discussed why the setting changed throughout the story. We also thought about the main character and wrote about something that he did.

We integrated writing with inquiry and wrote about what we use our different bins at home for. The class discussed why it is important to sort our rubbish and reduce the amount we send to landfill.

Numeracy

In Maths, we have continued to focus on money. The students have used play money in pretend shops and created price tickets for items in the classroom. They played a game of Toy Bingo to help develop confidence with the names of the Australian coins. Throughout the week, students have all had a turn working with me in a small guided group. Some students were extended to discuss the value of each coin and some even began adding coins to make a value, e.g. $2.50, $3.70, $6.80.

It has been a very exciting day but I think I am actually feeling closer to 100 years old now.
