100 Days of Prep

Congratulations to all of our Prep students, on reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 days at school! It's amazing to see how much they have grown and achieved in this time. Today they celebrated with Mrs Callaway through a range of fun activities centred around the number 100. Keep up the fantastic effort as you continue your learning journey. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you and excited to support you in your journey through Primary School.

Gold Fever

On Wednesday, ACPS felt less like a school and more like an 1850's Gold Rush as the Grade 5/6 classes embarked on their inquiry topic for the term. With a focus on the gold rush, the students had an exciting hands-on learning experience through an excursion and gold hunt. Dressed in period costumes, they immersed themselves in the history and culture of the era, igniting their curiosity and sparking a hunger for gold nuggets. This engaging unit will culminate in their Sovereign Hill Camp, where they will further explore the legacy of the gold rush and its impact on Australian history.

Book Week

We are excited to announce that the Book Fair has started at ACPS this week! Everyone is welcome to come and browse the fantastic collection of books during the opening hours of 8:30-9am and 3-4:30pm on Thursday 20th July, Friday 21st July, and Monday 24th July. This is a wonderful opportunity to discover new literary treasures while supporting our school library. All proceeds from the Book Fair will directly contribute to acquiring new books for ACPS, enriching the reading experiences of our students. We look forward to seeing you there! Happy reading!

Painting Upgrade

The painting upgrades for the Prep/Grade 1 Building and Portable at the front of the school have been completed this week. This significant improvement to our school's infrastructure was made possible through the contributions to our Building Fund, and we extend our gratitude to the school community for their generous donations as part of their voluntary school fee contributions into this fund. Your support has played a vital role in enhancing our learning environment, ensuring our students have a vibrant and welcoming space to thrive. Thank you for your continued commitment to the growth and improvement of our school!

ACPS Concert

It’s almost SHOWTIME! It has been fantastic to see students embracing a bit of sparkle and confidence as they complete their final rehearsals ready for our upcoming concert (incl Grade 5/6 Wakakirri performance for our school community). It will be a very special experience with so many choices made by the students.

Working Bee

Our Term 3 Working Bee will be taking place on Sunday 23rd July from 9-11am. We understand that it is always difficult to find the time in the busyness of life but if you are available for a couple of hours we would be incredibly grateful for your help. There is a link to our Sign Up sheet on Compass that has itemised tasks with an accompanying image to help people in allocating themselves to a task. Please add your name in the yellow column that corresponds with the task you would be happy to help with. We will provide all materials and as much equipment as possible but would also appreciate any additional wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, paint brushes, etc. Some morning tea will be provided and of course children are more than welcome to come along and play or help out where they can.

Trivia Night

Get ready for a night of fun, music, and brain-teasing challenges! Join us for an evening filled with excitement as we test your knowledge with trivia questions and enjoy a live band. There will be drink sales, optional food hampers for tables, as well as silent and live auctions with fantastic prizes up for grabs.

Organising a trivia night is a massive endeavour, and we welcome any help or support in planning this event. If you're interested in contributing your skills and time, please reach out to Rick Templeton at rickjtempleton@gmail.com.

More details and ticket information to follow soon.

Upcoming changes to NAPLAN Reporting

Ahead of NAPLAN results for students being released from Monday 17 July 2023, I’m writing to inform you of some changes to this year’s reporting. These are changes being introduced nationally by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

NAPLAN will continue to measure student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation but the results will now be presented in 4 proficiency levels:

These are:

· exceeding

· strong

· developing

· needs additional support.

This change will give schools, parents and carers clearer information that details student achievement against new proficiency levels.

Students’ NAPLAN reports will continue to show how they are tracking against their peers and provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages and where we would expect them to be in order to get the most out of schooling. This provides valuable information to teachers about how we can continue to support your child.

Each set of NAPLAN results is an important milestone but it’s also important that students know that one result does not define them – these results are about making sure every student gets the support they need so they can continue to get the best from their learning.

When we provide you with your results, you will also receive information about what the new proficiency levels mean.

As ever, you’re welcome to speak to me, or your child’s teacher with any questions about these changes.
