Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents,
For the next few weeks, we will be having a whole school focus on being a good sport on the school playground, particularly for those who enjoy playing ball games during lunch and snack times. We will be looking out for behaviours such as being considerate of other students also using the playground spaces, being aware of how banter or 'trash talk' can make other people feel. A member of the leadership team will be visiting each classroom to reinforce these messages as well.
Pyjama Day
Our Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders have organised a Pyjama Day for tomorrow Friday 21st July.
Our pyjama day coincides with a fundraising initiative organised by the Pyjama Foundation, which aims to raise money to support children in foster care. We will make a donation to the Pyjama Foundation on behalf of St Finbar's.
The Year 6 leaders will also use this day to educate the students about the importance of good sleep habits to assist with positive mental health. We can't wait to see everyone in their pyjamas tomorrow.
Stress Management
This week the junior classes were learning about stress as part of the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relations program.
The Prep students were presented with a series of potentially stressful situations and placed themselves along a continuum of how stressful they would feel in that situation. The purpose of this task was to understand that people view stress differently - what one person finds stressful might be completely fine for someone else.
The Year 1 and 2 students were introduced to a character named Wibbly - they talked about how Wibbly may be feeling, and then drew a situation that might be causing Wibbly stress. It was interesting to note that some students have identified the upcoming school production as something that they're feeling anxious about; the teachers will lead discussions about this in class to help alleviate these nervous feelings.
Thank you
