We are learning to identify and describe the characteristics of islands in different locations in Australia


VOCABULARY

Characteristics -  These are the different features of an island.

 

These could include:

 

Location: Where in Australia is the island located? Which Coast is it off? Which ocean is it in?

 

Size: How wide is it? How long is it? How many square metres is its area?

 

Composition: What is the island made of? Is it rock, sand, or something different?

 

Wildlife: What wildlife inhabit the island?

 

Climate: What is the weather like on the island?

 

Purpose: What is the island used for? Is it used primarily for tourism, or is it used for a form of research?


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Using either information textbooks or online sources, have your child choose an Australian island and research the different characteristics listed in the previous section.
