Reading

CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Reading this week, we are learning to synthesise new information.

VOCABULARY

Synthesise: use prior knowledge, inferring, and new information to change / deepen your understanding.

Prior knowledge: what your child already knows / understands about a topic.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

With your child, read together an information report within their blue satchel or one found online, using https://www.natgeokids.com/au/

Once you’ve read the article or book with them, ask them what new information was introduced as they read and how this changed their opinion, or ideas, on the topic.

E.g. Before reading I know that penguins hold their eggs on their feet.

During reading I learnt that penguins huddle together to keep warm.

My new understanding is that Penguins hold their eggs to keep them warm.
