School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships

A school-based apprenticeship is like any other apprenticeship or traineeship, however it begins while students are still studying at school, usually in Years 10, 11 or 12.

Students will have the opportunity to have paid work with an employer as well as contributing towards a Certificate II, III or higher vocational qualification.

School-based apprenticeships are a great alternative for students who prefer hands-on learning, while still allowing the completion of the HSC. It also means that there are more options once the apprenticeship is finished, including university or further vocational study.
