STEAM

Students have continued the STEAM learning journey by creating bionic hands from multiple materials in new learning teams. Students discovered the complexity of the task and rose to the various challenges, like relocating objects and learning sign language.

Year 8 students also further developed their collaborative working skills during the Tiny House Challenge this term. Students have created a 2D drawing, chalked their concepts to check the functionality of their designs, created a media profile for their small companies and constructed 3D scaled designs ready for the Tiny House Shark Tank in Week 8. The students will be pitching their tiny house design concepts o Mater Dei Primary School students, community members, along with Year 9 and Year 12 students.

Robocup Junior Competition

Mater Dei currently has three teams of students from Year 8 to Year 11, working towards participating in the Canberra Junior Robocup competition in September. The teams are creating a dancing robot and programming a robot so that it is ready to compete in a soccer tournament. Students are learning about Lego Mindstorms EV3 and utilising the MV Innovation Grant from CEDWW to create their robots.

Riverina Inter-School Coding Competition

There are two teams of Year 9 girls studying python coding to compete in the CSU Agritech Hub Inter-School Coding Competition. Students will compete in a few weeks, where they will bring their new found skills to fruition.
