Mayoral Breakfast with local High School Captains

Mater Dei College Captains Gabe Shaw and Harris Mitter represented our College on Wednesday 29 May at the Mayoral Breakfast held at the Wagga Wagga Council Chambers, and chaired by Councillor Dallas Tout (Deputy Mayor). In previous years, Council has taken on board a range of feedback in the gaps for youth services and programs and had their Youth officer update on the youth engagement platforms and Council initiatives. This year’s Mayoral Breakfast was an opportunity for Council to hear from young people their thoughts and aspirations for a new Council cultural plan.

Please find an overview from Gabe below:

"The Mayoral Breakfast was a great opportunity to get together in a forum of like-minded students held at the Council Chambers last Wednesday. The group put forward ideas about what youth culture in Wagga means to them and how to create the best opportunity for young people today.

For Harris and I, it was an opportunity to form relationships with other captains and student leaders to discuss possible events that young people could engage in. These included more opportunity surrounding music, art and creative writing.

Coming together as local school leaders gave Council Representatives insight into our own perspectives that the Council eagerly took on board. Council said it will continue to listen and engage youth throughout the year to provide the best opportunities for youth in Wagga".
