Introducing: - Meaghan O’Connor

Many of you know Meaghan through her excellent work in P.E. over the past few years. She has also stepped up on many occasions to replace classroom teachers during times of illness and long service leave.

Meaghan is an accomplished performer and has demonstrated this in the Parent Band over the past few years. She has skills in flute, piano, ukulele and guitar. She loves to dance and knows our children well.

Please welcome her to Music.

Strings

A very excited group of year two students arrived early on Tuesday morning to begin violin and cello lessons. These students practise every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I am looking forward to accompanying them on piano once they have their open strings mastered. 

Corelli Strings, our year 3 ensemble, also started rehearsals this week. They practise every Monday morning. 

Orchestra, will take a little longer to get off the ground as they cross over in terms of age. I know many have been diligently rehearsing and many will be aiming for Australian Music Examinations Board exams this year. Once it is safe to bring this group of around 50 students together, rehearsals will take place in the hall on Wednesdays.

Rock Bands   

A very enthusiastic group of year five boys, race to the Music Room every recess time to play their favourite rock tunes. I am so impressed with the progress they are making. It is evocative of my childhood when I hear tunes such as Eye of the Tiger, Another One Bites the Dust, and Smoke on the Water being played. I hope to include singers as soon as the sound desk is back in action. Our power transformer has broken and one is currently on order. 

Parent Band

The IPS Parent Band has existed for many years in a wide variety of formats. Each parent who joins brings different skill sets to the fore. It’s great fun and we perform a repertoire of ‘middle of the road’ pieces.

I haven’t made any plans for this group yet. If you have experience in bands, I’d love to hear from you. I have a great rehearsal space and plenty of equipment. Just send me an email.
