Pathways and Transition

Celebrating success

Year 12

The Year 12 Graduation is one of several significant events that occur in Term 4 at the College. I’d like to acknowledge the efforts of our graduating Year 12 students who completed either a Uni-Transition or Training Direct Pathway who have, already enrolled in either University, TAFE, an apprenticeship or who will be working in 2022. I hope you continue to flourish and be successful in your chosen pathway and wish you the very best for the future.

Year 11

Two of our Year 11 students, Connor Brewer and Jacob Griffiths, have been successful with their applications to enrol in the College of Electrical Training Electrotechnology course that commenced this term. This course is highly competitive, and students must not only apply, but receive good results in a Readiness Assessment Test (https://www.exemplarlearning.com.au/readiness-assessment ). This is the first time we have had students qualify for a course at CET and are very proud of this achievement.  Congratulations Connor and Jacob.

Many of our Uni-Transition or Training Direct Year 11 students are one step closer to completing of their offsite VET Qualifications, including Certificate III Fitness, Early Childhood Education and Care, Education Support, Screen and Media and Cyber Security. In 2022, most of these students will either complete work experience in their chosen field or enrol in a Certificate IV course.

Pathways to VET for those without their WACE or OLNA

The Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) is designed to enable students to successfully meet the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) literacy and numeracy requirements.

There are several alternative pathways to TAFE for school students who do not achieve an OLNA:

  • Vocational pathway (VET in schools): school students who complete a vocational course while at school can rely on their AQF qualification to demonstrate their literacy and numeracy skills(this is included in the guide) i.e. students can achieve an OLNA or a Certificate I, II or III to gain entry to a TAFE course (with the exception of qualifications within the Foundation studies training package (FSK);

  • TAFE Admissions testing: TAFE Admissions adopted the reading and numeracy modules of the OLNA as its literacy and numeracy testing tool. Subject to verification with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority, school students may be eligible to register for TAFE Admissions testing if they have not sat the OLNA at school within the six months preceding TAFE Admissions testing and if they have not exhausted their maximum six attempts at the OLNA while of compulsory school age;

  • Alternative assessment: students can be referred to the learning area at their preferred TAFE college for a Learning Area Assessment;
    • Students can enrol at any Certificate I level,as there are no entryand
    • Students can enrol into one of the foundation skills and equitycourses.

For more information, download the TAFE admissions guide for entry to full time courses for entry to full time courses.
