Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Holidays are now a distant memory; however, the students and staff are focused and ready for the next productive seven weeks of teaching and learning.

The Year 5G students were very excited about attending their 'roar and snore' sleepover at the Zoo on Thursday evening. This 'zoo camp' is a unique opportunity to discover Perth Zoo after dark, as well as participate in some conservation activities. I'm sure the students enjoyed their time away from home and are going to have many stories to share on their return.  Special thanks to Ms Allen, Miss Graves, Ms O’Connor, Miss Nish, Mrs Burke, Mr Williams and Ms Brown for getting out their sleeping bags and spending the night in a barn at the Zoo and to Mrs Petsos for all her preparation work.

The Visual Art Exhibition will be open from 11:00am – 2:00pm this Saturday 23 October. The exhibition features artwork from secondary and primary students. All our Year 3-6 students participate in specialist Visual Art lessons with Mrs Blaauw and have a piece of artwork exhibited.  A small selection of artwork from the junior years is also on display. This annual exhibition is a great opportunity for parents and the community to view artwork across all years and for students to showcase their artwork. Everyone is invited to come along to the Thomas More Exhibition Centre on Saturday and celebrate the students design and creativity through their amazing range of 2D and 3D work. Congratulations to Mrs Blaauw for all her efforts with the students and hard work behind the scenes.

Finally, thank you to all our families for the care and consideration that is taking place in our car parks before and after school. It is important that we always remember that young children are not predictable and, for them to stay safe, we need to be very aware of the need to drive slowly in the car parks. We also ask that all parents keep their children close by them when walking to their cars and only park in designated parking bays.

Kind regards,

Roar & Snore Camp

Last Thursday afternoon, Year 5B gathered at the Perth Zoo for an exciting overnight zoo camp. One of our highlights was when my group went on the night walk and we were lucky enough to see a rhino trying to break down the gate! It broke the bottom part but not the top, but it was still very exciting to witness.  We all had so much fun at the camp but we were extremely tired when we got home. By Mia Conway (5B)

On Thursday last week Year 5 Blue embarked on an excursion to the Perth Zoo. There were highlights for everyone but a big one for me was when we were permitted to go behind the scenes to see the lionesses up close. We also made enrichment for the African Painted Dogs but ended up giving the treats to the meerkats instead. The meerkats loved it!  We all had an amazing time at the Perth Zoo and thank all the teachers for organising the camp.

On Thursday 14 October, the whole of Year 5B arrived at the Perth Zoo for the best camp! There were so many funny moments. On Thursday night as we were eating our delicious pizza, Mr Fromm got a good luck surprise from a crow. This good luck went all through his hair and down his back! The following day while I was eating my roll the exact same thing happened to me!  After this amazing camp we all got on the bus, super tired, and headed back to school.
