Year 9 - Analysing Sustainable Food Products

Our ecological footprint, known as a ‘food print’ is influenced by what we eat, how food is produced, how far it has traveled, how it is packaged, prepared and cooked, the portion size and how much we throw away.  It is everything to get that food from farm to your plate.

Are the food products you buy produced sustainably and how many CO2 emissions are generated if they are imported to Australia from another country? Year 9 students have been sourcing products from their pantries and fridges during lockdown to calculate their food miles.

Year 9 students have investigated strategies to save money, reduce waste and be informed food shoppers.

Sara’s work highlights some important and sustainable strategies.
