Middle School News

Year 7 to 9

Middle School

With the news that the State Government was bringing the date of return to onsite learning closer, also came a rush to organise a welcome for the students from Years 7 – 9. Unfortunately, operations guidelines and Covid Safe practices meant we could not meet in a big group in the Stadium, however, we conducted an online Middle School Assembly instead. Focus of the assembly included:

  • Welcome back
  • Reinforcing expectations and Covid Safe measures
  • Exam Procedures
  • Remote Learning Competition Winners

The latter of these foci was of course the announcement and presentation of awards to those who participated in the online year level competitions run by coordinators. Please refer to the attached slides for the power point presentation we used for the assembly. It includes winners names, some pictures and messages for students regarding examinations.

On that point I would also like to remark on how happy everyone was when students arrived back at school. Not only staff who were excited to see their classes face to face but the students themselves appeared enthused by the occasion. At the same time I can’t praise them enough for the way they have settled back in (still early days) to onsite learning and the College value of ‘respect’ they have shown for Senior students sitting exams. We know that the road ahead is not going to be an easy one, there will still be many disruptions and school closures as we have seen this Monday. However, if we continue to work together as a community as we have so far, then we will get through it together.

1 to 1 Digital Learning Program 2022

In 2022 we will continue with our whole school 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students.

The purchase of these devices is crucial to the learning program as students will access eBooks rather than an extensive number of expensive textbooks.

Details of the 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students and important information regarding suitable devices are detailed in the attached policy.

**Please note that the JB Hi Fi Solutions portal is no longer open for the sale of devices. This service is not available for 2022 purchases.

Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards

Please remind all students that they must carry their Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards with them at all times.

ALL students must sign in/out with their card at the General Office when they are arriving late or leaving early for any reason. A reminder that Year 12 students are required to sign in/out at The John Landy Centre Compass Kiosk.

The cards are also used for any student photocopying that is done at school. The EDSC Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  is also the student PTV (Public Transport Victoria) cards. They are required to carry this card as student identification while travelling on public transport.

If a student loses their card, parents/guardians are able to re-order a replacement card via the Compass parent portal.
