Vale Max Griffiths

Max Griffiths and his wife Dr Merrilyn Murnane during a visit to the College in 2009

The St Philip's College community was saddened to hear of the death of long time College supporter and past Superintendent of the AIM, Max Griffiths MBE.

The College extends its sincerest condolences to Max's wife Dr Merrilyn Murnane and Max’s sons William, John, Michael, Robert and families.

Max had a very long involvement with the College, and the College owes him a debt of gratitude due to his tireless work from the time he was the Superintendent of the AIM. Max and Merrilyn's shared belief in the education of remote children and the educational philosophy of St Philip's, has resulted in families of Central Australia having benefited from their association with the College.

The value of this association is well documented in the College’s history book "The Right Amount of Crazy"

During the period of the 70's and 80's when the College struggled financially to survive, it was Max’s lobbying and success in brokering financial deals with the Federal & Territory governments that enabled the College to survive and to become today, the school of choice for people in remote Central Australia.

The book's author John Lamont has a firm belief that without Max's dedication, St Philip's would be a very different place.

St Philip's College past and present community members thank Max for all that he achieved for the College.
