Message from the Mayor

City of Ballarat CEO Evan King and I recently had the opportunity to meet with School Principals to discuss concerns raised about road safety for students attending Alfredton Primary, St Thomas More Primary and Ballarat High Schools.

We appreciated the opportunity to have this discussion with representatives from all schools and are currently exploring the best ways to address safety in the area.

City of Ballarat’s Infrastructure Unit is working on concept designs to upgrade and improve pedestrian access and traffic flow in the Sturt Street/Learmonth Street/Cuthbert’s Road area in partnership with Regional Roads Victoria (RRV).

Several options are currently being considered including additional zebra crossings, and initiatives to reduce traffic congestion in these school areas, particularly at peak times.

The City of Ballarat will continue to work with RRV, as the approving body for pedestrian installations and the responsible authority for the intersection of Sturt and Learmonth Streets, regarding the list of actions from our meeting.

Council is also continuing to advocate for State and Federal Government support for the duplication of Dyson’s Drive to reduce traffic volume on local roads.

I look forward to reporting back to your school community as we progress plans for traffic and safety improvements in the Alfredton school zone.

Cr Daniel Moloney

Mayor, City of Ballarat
