Visual Art News

Despite COVID-19 restrictions which affected the ability of some of our boarders from NSW to attend school in person towards the end of Term 3, it was business as usual and with the delivery of packs of art materials, a number of our students were still able to complete practical activities from home. Year 8 boarder, Lachlan McMillan, who is from a town that sits on the Queensland and New South Wales border, showed initiative and perseverance in completing his lino prints to a high standard at home, using written instructions from his teacher, Julia Wilken and all without the aid of a printing press. Well done to Lachlan.

With the success of the recent Tower Art Show, we would like to congratulate Year 12 student Darcy Knight, who was awarded the “People’s Choice Award” for his painted 1980s Landrover door. Darcy also represented our College with this artwork, along with Year 12 students, Sam Jensen, Dino Lopes and Angel Butten in the 2021 Creative Generation Visual Art awards. The winners for this prestigious competition will be announced in early October, to coincide with the Metropolitan Exhibition opening at Brisbane Institute of Art on Sunday 10 October.
