Welcome Back to Term 4

Welcome back and I look forward to a wonderful last term of the year. It will be a busy term and I do hope the students have returned refreshed and ready to give school their ‘best go’.

First Assembly

At Assembly this week, I presented students with the Dr Seuss quote, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose".  I then spoke to them about being true to themselves and being the best version of themselves they can be. At this age, it is quite hard to stand apart from your peers and do something that they are not doing. It is hard to follow your own path when ‘mates’ are telling you to follow them. It is hard to say no to things that you normally would not do. It is the age where students want to fit in and belong, even if, at times, that means doing something they are not necessarily comfortable with. It is our job as adults to try and teach them that they have a say in what they do or how they behave, they know the difference between right and wrong, they know who they are and should not ‘pretend’ to be someone else. I emphasised that they are not sheep, each of them are leaders in their own way and are able and strong enough to make their own decisions. I will continue to convey to them that they are individuals with different personalities and that they must do what is best for them, no comparisons, no keeping up, no fear of missing out. They must aspire to be the best them they can be. This of course, is a reminder not just for our students but we as adults also.

Uniform

A reminder that students should now be in summer uniform. As is common practice at the College for the first two weeks of term, if there are days that are very cold, students can wear the correct full winter uniform.

Mobile Phones and Smart Watches

Students have also been reminded that mobile phones or smart watches will be confiscated between the hours of 8.45am and 3.15pm. If a student has a mobile or smart watch at school they should be locked away in their locker for the day, this is to keep the item safe.

Dunhelen House Art Competition Winners to be Announced Monday 14 October

At next week’s Assembly, I will be announcing the Dunhelen House Art competition winners. There were over 30 entries for this competition. It was very hard for staff to determine winners. First place will receive a $40 Coles/Myer gift voucher. Second place a $30 Coles/Myer gift voucher. Third place a $20 Coles/Myer gift voucher and a commendation prize of a $10 Coles/Myer gift voucher also awarded. The main rewards, however, are the points that all entrants have earned for their House. I congratulate all entrants.

House Lunchtime Sports

This week, Dunhelen also commenced the House lunchtime sports activities. The Year 7 students competed in a game of basketball at lunchtime on Wednesday. The next round will be next Wednesday. These activities are being coordinated and run by our Sports and House Captains (with a little assistance) and I would like to thank them for putting in the hard work.
