College Play: 'Tartuffe'
This year’s College Play opens next Wednesday night, 16 October at 7.30pm. While not well-known to modern audiences, the 16th Century Moliere hit, 'Tartuffe' is a classic comedy full of elaborate costumes worn by silly characters, in even sillier wigs. A cast of twelve students have worked under the direction of Ms Jacquelyne Armstrong.
Tartuffe will feature Year 10 student Lewis M in the title role, while Year 11 students, Max H will feature as Orgon and Sanna D as Elmire, considered amongst the greatest classical theatre roles. Technical support is coming from the Year 10 Theatre Studies class. There is also a 7.30pm performance on Thursday 17 October while the final performance on Friday 18 October commences at 3.30pm. Tickets are $16.50 adults and $11.00 concession plus booking fees, while a family of four is $50.00 inc booking fees. Go to trybooking.com.
Festival of the Arts
Along with a large display of visual arts and technology, the final week of October includes two great concert experiences.
On Tuesday 29 October from 4.00pm - 7.00pm, the annual Twilight Concert will be held in conjunction with the College Open Afternoon. Students from most year levels in the school will be featured on the outdoor stage.
This year, we are also combining it with the launch of our second Aitken College Kool Skools Album. Students who were involved in recording 10 original songs in September will take to the stage from 6.15pm.
Entry is free and BBQ food will be available for purchase on the lawn area, an ice-cream van will be in attendance as will Cafe2U Coffee Van. So, plan an afternoon of great entertainment where you can have a picnic and make the most of a beautiful afternoon.
Director’s Choice Gala Concert
On Thursday 31 October, I will be presenting some of my favourite acts from throughout the year, as well as a couple of surprises, in this annual showcase concert. Inclusion in this concert is by invitation only and I aim to provide the breadth of performing arts experiences across the year from Media, Music and Theatre. Tickets are $11 each or take advantage of discounted tickets with ‘4 for the price of 3’ or five tickets for $35. Tickets are now available from trybooking.com.
Live Media Broadcast
In developing their understanding of the Media Industry, earlier this week, our Year 11 Media students prepared the annual news broadcast, “The Aitken Project”. Over a number of weeks, students prepared and filmed stories before taking over the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre last Wednesday in a ‘live’ studio set up.
VCE Students
Over the coming two weeks we will be farewelling our Year 12 students. Our Theatre Studies students had their stagecraft examination today and now await their results. Our VET Music students will present their programs for assessment in two week's time. They are in the final stages of preparation.
Some of our Performing Arts students started at Aitken 13 years ago and we have watched many of them develop into fine performers and wonderful ambassadors for the Performing Arts at Aitken College. We wish them all well for whatever lies ahead of them but know that like so many before them, once you are part of the Performing Arts family at Aitken, you are always part of the Performing Arts family.
