Learning & Teaching

Welcome to Term 2!

The Cross-Curricula Capabilities

All schools have a responsibility to support the development of students' social, emotional and physical wellbeing in addition to teaching the content within the traditional subjects. We need to support our young people to build their personal, social and ethical capabilities to prepare them for the increasingly complex world they have to navigate.

At Wantirna College, students learn some of these important skills through the Health PE curriculum, Explore and Elevate classes and other co-curricula programs and we are always looking to do more. Therefore we have formed a working party to examine our curriculum offerings, identify curriculum gaps and create opportunities to expose students to the Capabilities curriculum in greater depth and breadth from Year 7-12.

We have started this ambitious project by creating a Victorian Curriculum Capabilities learning continua, mapping the skills progressions from Level 3 to Level 10A in key content areas including:

  • Sexual heath
  • Healthy relationships
  • Cyber safety
  • Mental wellness
  • Body positivity
  • Social communication and collaboration
  • Ethical thinking and action
  • Critical thinking and problem solving

Our objective is to provide multiple opportunities for students to learn skills within the classroom in small groups and through individual sessions with students. We also plan to provide feedback to students and parents  on their child's skills progression with assessment through our Maestro platform.

Maestro

If you are interested to know more about Maestro and Developmental Rubrics and how to log into Maestro and how to interpret the information, I have attached a guide for parents. Please reach out if you want more information or training.

Education Perfect (EP)

The annual $40 subscription for all Language classes (Chinese and Spanish) is now overdue. Please note that the EP payment portal will close on Sunday 7 May. After this time, all payments for Education Perfect will need to be made directly to the school through Compass events.

Education Perfect contains lesson content, learning activities and assessments and it is used in nearly every lesson. When a student account is closed, language teachers will provide the student with alternative activities to undertake in class.

We ask families having difficulty making this payment to please contact the General Office at generaloffice@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au to discuss payment options and available supports.
