School for Student Leadership

Yr 9 Snowy River Campus

The Year 9 student leaders returned from the Snowy River School for Student Leadership during the Term 1 holidays. As the students adjust back to their normal routines, they have reflected on the amazing opportunities, challenges and growth they experienced throughout their stay.

My highlight from snowy river camp was caving. It was so amazing to crawl through the caves and see all the beautiful cave decorations. I learnt a lot of resilience at the camp and pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I was challenged doing expeditions, but I learnt a lot from them and had a lot of fun. I have made lifelong friendships and it was such a great experience.

It was a life changing experience for me going to Marlo for the leadership academy. I was able to learn lots about how to better myself in certain aspects for example our nine learning concepts where they got us to learn in hands on experiences. I was able to reflect every day and after every experience which helped me to find things I can change and how to improve. They made our experience great and gave us new things to do to challenge ourselves I am very glad to have gone.

Snowy river was the best experience of my life if I got the chance to redo it I would in a heartbeat. When given chances I would normally refuse but now I am thankful to say I can happily say yes and put myself out there thanks to our snowy lessons! I have made some amazing connections with people over our state, and I am so happy with all my new friends hopefully we will all meet up very soon and reminisce our time at snowy! In all positives there are challenges to overcome some of which were being so far away from home (5 and a half hours), gaining confidence to overcome challenges thrown at me and being away from my best friends and close connections. One major highlight was expedition, in of our expeditions we hiked up a mountain and caned through a river throughout three days. During expo was the peak of our connecting with our friends from Mansfield!

Over my time at the Snowy River Campus, I encountered many new experiences and got to explore my identity in many different ways. There were many challenges which I faced, and I learnt how to do my best and resolve them instead of cowering away. Some of my favourite activities that we participated in while at the camp include caving and the expeditions. These were both very new to me and I had no clue what i was doing, but by the end of it I'd built some confidence and resilience. Something that I certainly improved on was my willingness to try new things, and that's helped me in many ways so far. Overall it was a great experience, and I would take the chance again if i was presented with it.
