YEAR 12 PSYCHOLOGY CLASSES GET A VISIT FROM SOME GUIDE DOGS AND THEIR OWNERS
In the last week of term one Psychology students were lucky to get a visit from Pam and her beautiful dog Bryl as well as Dorothy and her retired guide dog Anya, and her new working dog Macy.
Psychology students were able to learn about the guide dogs intense training and how they learn using operant conditioning, classical conditioning and observational learning. The three main learning models we are learning about in Psychology. We discovered that Bryl was such a well-trained dog that if he did something wrong he amazingly took himself off to the naughty mat. We also learned that Dorothy’s dog Anya who hates flying went on a plane flight with Pam and her dog Bryl and Anya learnt not to be so anxious by watching Bryl’s calm demeanour.
Some take always from the presentation were that if you see a guide dog and he is working both sight impaired speakers told us you do not pat them, but always offer help to blind people if they need it even if they have their dog with them. Both Dorothy and Pam told us that some people are reluctant to help blind people but they do sometimes need help. We also learned that the dogs love food and using reward such as snacks can eventually be associated and exchanged for praise. It was really interesting to see how different Bryl the guide dog was with his harness off, he was just like any other playful dog compared to when he was working where he was vigilant in looking after his owner Pam.
We would like to thank Pam and Dorothy for coming with their beautiful dogs and Ms. Komljenovic for organising our incursion.
ZOO EXCURSION
On the 17th of May, Year 10 Geography Students visited Werribee Zoo for their Fieldwork Excursion.
Both Acacia and Banksia students left school early to collect data for Gorilla habitat conservation and to prepare for the Environmental Management Plan.
We travelled the savannah through the Safari Bus and meet giraffes, emus and lions!
Students worked with Zoo officials to propose solutions and evaluate current strategies.
Overall, it was a fantastic day with an engaged and enthusiastic group of students!
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CULTURAL EXCURSION - Thursday, 6th April
At the end of Term 1, International students from both campuses took an unforgettable short journey to the attractive hinterland of Arthurs Seat on the Peninsula Mornington. We were able to explore the most beautiful nature at Enchanted Adventure Park located at the south-east side of Victoria, which can be a great little getaway from school for rejuvenation and energy, after working hard to do our best in our studies. Most of the students enjoyed touring the gardens and laughed along the way walking through the mazes. As the Banksia International Student Captain and a Year-12 student, I am delighted that my friends and other students had a fantastic time, and I would like to thank the International Student Program staff team for assisting to get this wonderful excursion going. I had a delicious meal there and a great conversation with students from Acacia sharing our experiences of school, adding to the bonuses of the day. Overall, it has become one of my best days at Keysborough.

YEAR 12 FORMAL
Dear Year 12s
As this term (and semester) is quickly coming to an end, each day we are getting closer and closer to finishing our final year of schooling. It’s crazy to think that in just a few months’ time we will be walking across the graduation stage. With a block of SACs coming up as the semester ends, and not to mention the GAT on the 15th of June, we want to encourage you all to keep up the effort you’re already putting in. We know how hard it is to get up in the morning, especially now that the weather’s getting colder, but the fact that many of us are coming to school and doing the work despite these difficulties, is an amazing achievement in itself! We are so proud of each and everyone of you for how hard you have been trying and how much you have been accomplishing. It's truly an inspiring part of our day! So keep going despite the challenges, we are with you every step of the way!
One thing to definitely look forward to next term is our formal, which is the perfect event to keep us motivated throughout all the stress. The theme this year is “A Night in Paris”. The committee has been hard at work planning the formal and can’t wait for everyone, Year 12 students and staff, to enjoy the night. This is an incredible opportunity to socialise, dress up and make many more memories with the year level, something we can look back on fondly and reminisce. We are so excited to see you all there looking your best on what will be a most memorable night!
Best wishes and kind regards,
Your 2023 Campus Captains
