College Principal Report

Changes to Campus Leadership

It was with very mixed emotions that the staff at our Acacia Campus recently fare welled our Acacia Campus Principal Natalie Fode as she began her maternity leave before the birth of her second child.

Her role will be in the very capable hands of Robyn Hughes who has for several years performed the role of Acacia Campus Senior School Assistant Principal. In turn Robyn’s AP role will be filled by Lauran Walters who up to now has been the Year 12 Teacher Team Leader at our Banksia Campus. Stephanie Govender will assume the role of Banksia Year 12 Teacher Team Leader.

Along with everyone else I give my best wishes to Natalie and her family and also to Robyn, Lauran and Stephanie in their new roles.

National Reconciliation Week

The dates for National Reconciliation Week are the same each year; 27 May to 3 June.

These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

2022 Annual Report to the Community

The Annual Report provides principals and school councils with an opportunity to share the year’s achievements and progress with the school community. This includes reflecting on the school’s performance and explaining the impact of school improvement efforts on student outcomes.

The Annual Report is prepared in 2 parts:

  • a performance summary which details the school’s academic performance from the past year and trends across a 4-year period.
  • the ‘About our school’ commentary which is prepared by the principal and outlines the achievements of the school in the previous year.

Our 2022 Annual Report to the Community is available for reading on our school website.

Stay well this winter.

Symptoms of influenza (flu) can hit very quickly and may last several weeks. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting the flu. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended from mid-April each year and is free under the National Immunisation Program for those at higher risk of complications from the flu.

Parents, carers and students are encouraged to practice prevention measures, including:

  • washing and sanitising hands regularly
  • avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing · staying home if unwell and consulting a general practitioner (GP) or Nurse-on-call as required
  • staying up to date with flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.

Flu vaccinations can be booked through GPs and pharmacies, many of which can also provide COVID-19 vaccinations. Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over.

Some people are more at risk of complications from flu and are eligible for free vaccination as part of the National Immunisation Program.
