SENIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL
Our ‘Senior Girls’ Football team was made up of an exceptional group of Athletes from Years 8 – 12. The girls played their hearts out against Mirboo North, running away convincing victors 20 – 0 with Bella Cruze-Appleman kicking three goals at Full Forward. Skyla Bailey saw plenty of the ball in her final day out for the KSC side and Bianca Monson was unbeatable in the ruck.
The second game was a bit tougher, but ferocious tackling from Addy Venten and Hayley Brown, and some handy rebounds off half-back from Charlotte Anthony had Mary McKillop on the wrong end of the final score, KSC victors again 9 – 0.
The girls had the tough ask of backing up to play Bass Coast College in the final game – the winner progressing through to the next round. Unfortunately our young, tired legs were unable to match the strength of the senior girls from Bass Coast. Despite a fighting finish the girls went down in a real contest. Molly Boulter put on a display in the final 10 mins, breaking tackles and streaming down the wing. Jac Turton was very handy as a target out of defence, and Kiera Witton played some of her best footy of the day in the forward line against a formidable opponent.
This great team will regroup and have another tilt at the Senior Girls competition next year with plenty of strong players showing courage and determination to come up against much bigger opponents. As always, the team represented the school very well, demonstrating sportsmanlike behaviour and being fierce but friendly competitors. ‘Burra on 3!’
INTERMEDIATE BADMINTON
The Korumburra Secondary College Intermediate Badminton teams played their round robin competition at the Bass Coast Secondary College’s stadium in Wonthaggi. All students participated in both singles and doubles competitions throughout the day, facing students from Bass Coast, Mary MacKillop and Chairo. Unfortunately, both the girls and boys teams weren’t successful on the day, but it was great to see everyone having and go and enjoying the experience.
VOLLEYBALL
The pre-game tension was palpable in the mini-bus as the senior boys volleyball team made its slow descent out the Burra hills towards Wonthaggi for the inter school senior volleyball tournament. The meditative state of the team was only broken by hushed conversation and one unexpectedly vigorous reprise of ‘Sweet Caroline’ in unison as it played over the Bluetooth speaker; this was a good indicator of the seamless teamwork that would characterise the rest of the day.
The team played a very mature and consistent form of volleyball, playing three shots at every opportunity and demonstrated very good technical skills in the process. The team even took on the challenge of running some challenging attack combinations where every player was involved. The team played five games on the day and won every set until they came up against an equally experienced Mary Mackillop team. The Burra boys lost a close first set but bounced back strong to take the second 20-10. A third short set was played in the time that remained and the team finished down by a point. The team conducted themselves with a great sense of sportsmanship and this was demonstrated by all of the teams present on the day. A big thank-you to Mr Boulter who has dedicated many lunchtimes to training our College volleyball teams, Mrs Kordus for organising trip and all of the umpires, staff and students who made the day so enjoyable.
Mr. Churchill
INTERMEDIATE VOLLEYBALL
On Wednesday the 5th of April, three teams of Intermediate volleyball players attended SPLASH Leongatha to compete against other local schools in the South Gippsland division.
The Intermediate girls team only lost one match, and all the girls played as a very cohesive unit throughout the day. They certainly had the loudest chant and perhaps this deterred some of their competition.
To even up the draw, this year, we were lucky enough to enter two Intermediate boys teams. Both teams played well and one of the boys teams made it through to the regional level. Congratulations to those that came out on top and good luck for the next round.
All students played fair, behaved exceptionally well, displayed great volleyball skills and took part in some thrilling volleys. Thank you Mr. Boulter for coaching/training our volleyball teams and thank you to the students for a great day of competition.
REGIONAL VOLLEYBALL
On Friday a bus load of students headed to the Morwell Leisure Centre to represent KSC at Regional Volleyball. The Intermediate boys team played well and picked up some good playing experience at the regional level, and the Year 7 girls walked away with the runner up flag.
The most exciting news is the Senior Boys won and will now be going to the State Finals in two weeks. Good luck Senior boys!
