Anzac Day

Last week we were honoured to participate in Anzac Day memorial services across Echuca, Moama and Deniliquin.

As a Catholic learning community, we are not only called to work towards justice and peace in our own lives but to also show our support for those who have contributed to peace-keeping efforts across the world.

We were proud to witness our students contributing to our community on behalf of St Joseph's College in a positive way and paying their respects to the bravery and sacrifice our armed service men and women have made, and continue to make, to protect the country and way of life we know and love.

In particular we would like to thank the following students and their families for their participation:

  • Echuca - Jack Anderson, Hugh Byrne and Harrison Milburn.
  • Moama - Lilly Devlin and Zayah James.
  • Deniliquin - Payntten Cassidy, Arielle King, Gabrielle Jansen and Lilleanne Jansen.

On Wednesday, we kicked off the first day of Term Two with a beautiful Anzac service as a whole school community.

We were privileged to have Mr Shanahan, Echuca RSL President, as our special guest, who shared some of his personal reflections.

As part of the service, students laid a wreath and placed crosses to honour those members of our school community who lost their lives in World War I and II.

A member from each Learning Mentor Group was also asked to come forward and weave a rosemary branch form the letters J and P, as a symbol of our remembrance and our promise to work towards a world of justice and peace for all.

Throughout the service our Year 7 Choir and Year 11 Drama class treated us to some very moving performances.

I would like to acknowledge the following staff and students for their contribution on the day:

Anzac Biscuits

As part of our Anzac Day celebrations, many of our students were also involved in making and selling Anzac biscuits within the school community. I would like to thank the Year 12 leaders and students for spending time at recess selling these and also stressing the importance of supporting our returned soldiers and their families. We will donate the profits from the biscuits to our local RSL in the coming weeks.
