Captains' Corner

From our Academic Captains Meg and Georgina

Academic resilience is our main focus for this year in line with this year’s theme, ‘2023, building resilience in you and me’. It refers to the ability of students to persevere and overcome academic challenges despite facing setbacks, obstacles, or failures. It involves the development of skills such as goal setting, time management, and problem solving, as well as the cultivation of a positive mindset and self-belief.

Resilience is critical for students to succeed in academics. Students who possess academic resilience are more likely to stay motivated, set higher academic goals, and seek help when needed.

This year to recognize the importance and congratulate students who have shown resilience in their academics we have created a new award. Despite the removal of the Clever Crocs program from 2022, we still wish to focus on building fundamental skills through the literacy and numeracy programs. So this year we are introducing the ‘Academic Resilience Award’. This award will be given twice a term to one student in every literacy and numeracy class (Grades 7 to 9) and every English and Maths class (Grades 10 to 12). These students have been nominated by their teachers for their hard work and for demonstrati academic resilience.

We are so proud to have already awarded and acknowledged over 60 students this term for their persistence, hard work and academic resilience and are so excited for Term 2 and to see who will be nominated next. Keep up the great work everyone and have an amazing and well-deserved break!
